Tom Clark

Chief Financial Officer Morino Ventures, LLC

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]Tom is responsible for finance, accounting, and risk management functions; serves as the organization’s treasurer; and provides support to philanthropic, educational, and civic initiatives of the Morino Institute and family. Prior to this, he served for three years as CFO of Eppco Enterprises, Inc., a privately owned product import and manufacturing business. Before that, Tom spent 24 years with IMG, a privately owned international sports, entertainment, and media company. Hired as a client accountant, he assumed increasing responsibilities in IMG’s financial department and became Senior Vice President and Worldwide Controller. As an active volunteer at his family’s church, he has served in roles such as a member of the fund-raising committee, financial secretary, and treasurer. He is a trustee of the Lawrence School and currently serves on its finance committee. Tom received a BS in accounting from Dyke College and earned his Executive MBA from Case Western Reserve University in 1993. He is a CPA, a certification he has held since 1985. Tom, a lifelong Cleveland resident, currently lives in Rocky River with his wife, Beth, and their daughter. Cheryl Collins

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]Cheryl began working with Mario Morino in October 1992, during his “discovery/journey” phase, which led to the Morino Institute’s formation in 1994. Since then, she has served in key behind-the-scenes roles and provided support to philanthropic, educational, and civic initiatives of the Morino Institute and family, including the Potomac KnowledgeWay Project, the Netpreneur Program, the Youth Development Collaborative (YDC) Pilot, the YouthLearn Initiative, Venture Philanthropy Partners, and the Leap of Reason Initiative. She is co-editor of Leap of Reason. Her operations roles have encompassed a diverse set of responsibilities, including technology management, editorial oversight, web production, knowledge management, and research. Previously, Cheryl worked with students in grades seven through twelve, teaching English, journalism, and creative writing, and she was a program advisor for gifted programs at the Arkansas Department of Education. An active volunteer for her community of faith, she has worked with the preschool program since 1994 and serves on Southview Community Church’s personnel committee. Cheryl received a B.A. from Hendrix College, an M.Ed. in administration from Harding University, and an M.Ed. in gifted and talented education from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She lives in Northern Virginia. Veronica Dubravetz

Manager of Operations and Family Services Morino Ventures, LLC

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]As Manager of Operations and Family Services, Veronica supports the Morino Ventures offices, social-mission related activities and family services. In this role she oversees and delivers a range of office services, emergency preparedness, property management, purchasing, inventory and materials fulfillment, hospitality, event management and gifting, grants administration, and support for accounting and administration. Additionally, she takes on special projects from identity theft protection to playing a key role in the planning, construction, interior design and logistics of the organization’s office space. She also provides support to the CEO, COO and CFO. Previously, Veronica spent 10 years with the Cleveland Browns, working her way up from Community/Alumni Outreach Intern to Manager of Suite Operations, the first point of contact for all suiteholders. In addition to building strong relationships with her clients, she was responsible for the training of game-day suite staff, serving as a liaison with Stadium Partners, and facilitating and managing events for both suiteholders and outside clients. Veronica holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Marketing from John Carroll University and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Baldwin-Wallace University. She lives in Bay Village, with her husband, Tim, and their two sons. Tim Greenleaf

Director of Digital Media Morino Ventures, LLC

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]Tim works with the Leap of Reason team to design and develop our websites. During his 20-year career in digital media, he’s had three stints at National Geographic—as an intern, an original nationalgeographic.com launch-team producer, and the webmaster for National Geographic Expeditions. During the “dotcom boom,” Tim worked for the Morino Institute Netpreneur Program, digital agency Iconixgroup, and away.com. He also directed online advocacy at Environmental Working Group for five years, and guided efforts to adapt and evolve EWG’s organizational digital communications strategy in response to a fast-changing media and technology environment. Tim graduated from Ohio University with degrees in Visual Communications (specialization in informational graphics) and Geography (specializations in cartography and environmental geography). He also received a Master’s degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He lives in Cleveland with his wife and two children. Linda Johanek

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]Linda joined Morino Ventures in August 2017, is a member of the Leap Ambassadors Support Team and Co-Lead for Ambassador Onboarding & Engagement. Previous experience includes 22 years with the Domestic Violence & Child Advocacy Center where she rose through the ranks as a therapist, development director, and program administrator and then served as CEO for the past nine years. Additionally she was a Faculty Liaison with Cleveland State University, worked with the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University, and a Mediator and Trainer with Cleveland Mediation Center. Linda’s career has been marked by strong advocacy for women and children, the homeless population, survivors of violence, and social justice issues. She has an affinity for program and leadership development, strategic design, advocacy, challenging the status quo, and systems change work. Linda was President of the Ohio Domestic Violence Network, served on numerous boards in the social sector, and has been recognized for her strong leadership, collaborative spirit, and ability to create change among multidisciplinary teams. She received her Bachelor’s in Social Work from Cleveland State University and her Master’s degree in Social Science Administration from Case Western University. She lives in Cleveland and has three children in high school and college, and a Lab-mix rescue dog. Mario Morino

Chairman, Morino Institute Co-Founder and Founding Chair, Venture Philanthropy Partners

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]Mario is chairman of the Morino Institute and co-founder of Venture Philanthropy Partners. His career spans more than 50 years as entrepreneur, technologist, and civic and business leader.  He also has a long history of civic engagement and philanthropy in the National Capital Region and Northeast Ohio.  He is the primary author of the book Leap of Reason: Managing to Outcomes in an Era of Scarcity (2011), which is informing efforts in more than 60 countries to increase the impact of nonprofits, foundations, and public-sector entities, and is a member of the Leap of Reason Ambassadors Community that advances the theme that “performance matters.” In the early 1970s, Mario co-founded and helped build the Legent Corporation, a software and services firm that became a market leader and one of the industry’s 10 largest firms by the early 1990s.  He retired from the private sector in 1992. Since then, he has sought to “level the playing field” for children of low-income families focusing almost exclusively on economic, social, and educational issues. Mario founded the Morino Institute in 1994 to stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship, advance a more effective philanthropy, close social divides, and understand the relationship and impact of the Internet on our society.  In 2000, Mario co-founded Venture Philanthropy Partners as a philanthropic investment organization that concentrates investments of money, expertise, and contacts to improve the lives and boost the opportunities of children of low-income families in the National Capital Region.  In 2013, he helped launch the Leap of Reason Ambassadors Community, which is a private community of nonprofit thought leaders, leader practitioners, progressive funders, policy makers and instigators aiming to trigger a mindshift within a vital core of the social sector to accept that mission and performance are inextricably linked. In addition to his role with the Morino Institute, he is co-founder and serves as a member of the board of directors of Venture Philanthropy Partners and the board of directors of The Cleveland Clinic Foundation; an honorary trustee of The Brookings Institution; an Emeritus Trustee of Case Western Reserve; and on the board of the Lawrence School.  Mario has benefited from a 34-year affiliation with the global growth equity firm, General Atlantic LLC; and also informally advises scores of organizations and individuals across a range of areas. He lives in greater Cleveland with his wife, Dana. They are parents of three young adults. Matt Morino

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]Matt is responsible for all operational functions, including human resource management, property management, technology, and the oversight of MV’s 18-month operational calendar used to set overall priorities and manage “across the board” execution. Matt is involved in investment tracking, political budgeting, insurance administration, and providing a level of redundancy for the MV CFO functions. He also provides support to philanthropic, educational, and civic initiatives of the Morino Institute and family. Matt joined Morino Ventures in March of 2008, bringing 23 years of information technology, project management, finance, and accounting experience. Previous roles have included I/T Business Services Manager at First Energy, I/T Team Lead at Nordson Corporation, and I/T Manager at Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young). From 1996 to 2008, he was Founder and President of the Morino Software Corporation, which specialized in job search systems designed to help clients explore careers in Ohio. Matt received a Bachelor’s degree in business management and an MBA from Case Western Reserve University. He lives in Strongsville with his wife, Fran, and their three children. Matt T. Morino

Digital Media and Technology Support Analyst Morino Ventures, LLC

He joined Morino Ventures in January 2014 where his responsibilities include video production and editing and graphics design. He also assists with technology infrastructure maintenance and projects requiring technical programming. Matt is the official office “muscle guy” who cheerfully moves heavy equipment and gets big mailing shipments out the door. He brings a Net Generation mindset that augments the team’s experience and point of view. Trained in digital media at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Matt is a self-taught computer technician and an ISSA-certified personal trainer. He spends his off-hours studying far-ranging interests from fitness and health to theoretical sciences and innovative technologies. Beth Owens

Her primary role is working with the team to plan, develop, and publish content for the Leap Ambassadors Community’s social media properties and email campaigns. Prior to her work with the Leap Ambassadors Community, Beth spent four years working for the federal government in Washington, DC. She used some of the latest digital tools to coordinate public diplomacy projects and create engaging content for audiences around the world. Beth holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Political Science from Ohio University. Katie Paris

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]Katie Paris, an advisor to Morino Ventures, LLC, recently moved to Ohio from Washington, DC, after serving for more than a decade in leadership positions at political, nonprofit, and faith-based organizations. As Senior Vice President of Media Matters for America, which she helped launch as its first Research Director in 2004, Katie plays a key role in strategic planning, donor engagement, and proposal writing for the more than 70-person nonprofit. At Media Matters, Katie co-created a go-to messaging nerve center relied upon by Members of Congress, Capitol Hill and White House staff, and top pundits and advocacy leaders. Katie also helped launch Faith in Public Life (FPL), a strategy center that advances faith in the public square as a powerful force for justice, compassion and the common good. At FPL, Katie organized a presidential forum that aired live on CNN featuring religious leaders posing questions to candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton on issues like poverty and climate change, and helped launch coalitions such as the Christians for Comprehensive Immigration Reform, National Religious Campaign Against Torture, and We Believe Ohio. Katie continues to serve as an advisor to FPL, supporting the Nuns on the Bus, nationally and in Ohio, and helping launch FPL in Ohio. Her professional political experience includes working on gubernatorial, senatorial and presidential campaigns. Katie holds a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University. She resides in Shaker Heights with her husband Jeremy. Katie Reinart

Her primary responsibility is to support direct response outreach (Salesforce.com) with contact maintenance and currency. She also supports other team members in whatever capacity they need her. Prior to joining Morino Ventures, Katie spent five years as a manager in the client service department at Brandmuscle, a marketing technology firm. She guided clients through implementing and executing both print and digital projects that focused on local marketing for their global and national brands. Her client list included T-Mobile, Chase, Cardinal Health, and the American Red Cross. Katie holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations from Westminster College (PA). Elizabeth (Liz) Walters

She has spent her career working on behalf of organizations and people who support progressive values. She has worked for local and national nonprofits and foundations, as a senior aide to Ohio Congresswoman Betty Sutton, and as Executive Director of the Ohio Democratic Party. Most recently, Liz served as the Director of Community Outreach at the International Institute of Akron, Ohio’s largest Refugee Resettlement agency where she led fundraising and communication efforts, including an aggressive local and national media outreach program in response to changing federal rules. She also serves as an At-Large Member of Summit County Council. Crediting her start in public service to Girl Scouts, Liz got the “bug” as a Legislative Intern for the Girl Scouts of the USA in Washington, DC, after graduating from college. She is a lifetime Girl Scout and has been active with the organization as a member, employee, or volunteer since the age of five. Liz earned a B.A. in History from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA, and her Master’s in Public Administration from Cleveland State University. She resides in Akron with her rescue dog, Beatrice. Lowell Weiss

He provides comprehensive oversight of messaging for the Leap of Reason Initiative, serves as the lead writer and editor for all Morino communications, and is co-editor of Leap of Reason. Prior to starting Cascade Philanthropy Advisors, he served in a leadership role at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Among his many responsibilities, he served as staff director of the internal team responsible for providing Bill and Melinda Gates with analytical insights on how to make the highest and best use of Warren Buffett’s historic gift to the foundation. Prior to joining the Gates Foundation, he served as director of the chairman’s office at the Morino Institute. As Special Assistant to the President in the Clinton White House, Lowell traveled extensively with the president, wrote more than 150 speeches for him, and served as a key communications strategist on issues ranging from the environment to economic development. He wrote a New York Times bestselling book with political consultant James Carville; served as an editor at The Atlantic Monthly; and published articles in magazines including The Atlantic Monthly, U.S. News & World Report, and the New Republic.
